Ryder Cup Reject Ian Poulter Becomes Laughing Stock in Golf World Over Desperate Plea: ‘Decisions Have Consequences’

There is no end to the LIV Golf-PGA Tour drama. Recently Ian Poulter competed at the LIV Golf Chicago and finished in the 5th spot with a score of 6 under par, which is not half bad. The fans were also quite supportive of the golfer for making such a good finish, and the golfer himself said, “The old man has still got some life left,” referring to him as the old man. Then how did the table suddenly turn?

Well, the 48-year-old golfer expressed his thoughts on wanting to be a Ryder Cup captain someday and said that it was high time for the whole LIV Golf-PGA Tour drama to come together. In the latest post by NUCLR Golf, the fans could see the news struck the golf world like a thunderbolt. “LIV Golf’s Ian Poulter says he wants to be a Ryder Cup captain in the future,” read the caption.

The post further elaborated on what Poulter exactly said: “I’m hopeful one day there’s a sense of coming together that would enable the likes of myself… the opportunity to be able to become captain. Let’s see what happens; there’s going to need to be some compromise. I’m hopeful one day we’ll see it.” Yes, you read that right. According to Poulter, he envisions a day where ‘the likes of him’ mean other LIV golfers like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm could be Ryder Cup captains.

Netizens tear apart Ian Poulter in the latest X post

We’re starting off strong with this one fan saying, “It’s so funny to hear these LIV guys talk about “coming together” when they are the ones that left and are the reason there is a need to come back together!!!” And do you have an argument for that, because we can and most people don’t? After the official launch of LIV Golf in June 2021, a bunch of players defected to the Saudi-backed league, and many believe it was because of the money. Pulter himself went to LIV only one year after its establishment for reportedly $20-$30 million and ended his tour membership in 2023 after joining the Saudi-backed. “No. Decisions have consequences,” said another fan, adding fuel to the fire.

This fan said, “Other than performing well in the RC, what has Poulter done to deserve captaincy?”. Many might know, but the golfer was one of the reasons Team USA won the 2012 Ryder Cup. Poulter gave his absolute best performance that year and won all 4 matches he played over the three days of the event and helped his team score a victory by 14.5 points to 13.5.

Fans were like raging beasts over the golfer’s statement, and this one fan said, “Sure. As long as they pay whatever price required to come  back.” And this could be possible. In the latest LIV Golf-PGA Tour merger update, fans got to know that PGA Tour players are now demanding reparations from golfers who defected to LIV Golf. According to the report, the PGA Tour players are seeking major penalties, which include returning the earnings made from LIV Golf and paying fines to participate in PGA Tour events. So as long as LIV golfers are willing to do this, it can work out.

This one fan said “absolutely not” and ended his case. So what do you think can Ian Poulter ever achieve his Ryder Cup captaincy dream? Let us know in the comment section below!
