“Not going to offer more than that”- Jay Monahan does not make space for LIV Golf in 2025 PGA Tour schedule, hints lack of progress in PIF merger

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan provided an update on the ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) during a press conference on Wednesday, August 14, ahead of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The deal, which was first announced in June 2023, has faced numerous delays. Monahan acknowledged that while there has been significant momentum within the Tour, including the release of the 2025 season schedule, discussions with the PIF are still ongoing. However, he refrained from sharing further details about the merger.

“The conversations with the Public Investment Fund are an important part of the journey that we’re on this year and that we’ll continue to be on, and as I’ve said before, you’ve heard some players comment on, we continue to be in regular dialogue. I’m encouraged by that. But I’m really not going to offer more than that and not negotiate in public,” Monahan said (via ASAP Sports).

Jay Monahan also emphasized that the merger will not happen anytime soon and will take time. When asked by a reporter if the release of the 2025 PGA Tour schedule indicated that the deal with LIV Golf would take a few more years, Monahan confirmed that the process would take time.

“Does the release of the schedule now indicate that there’s not going to be anything with LIV, at least through next year or ’26 or ’27?” the reporter asked.
“I think that’s fair,” Monahan replied.
