The LSU women’s basketball team suffered some significant losses after the 2023-24 season with Angel Reese heading to the WNBA and Hailey Van Lith entering the transfer portal. But coach Kim Mulkey is using the portal to retool once again.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers announced the addition of three transfer players: Shayeann Day-Wilson (Miami), Kailyn Gilbert (Arizona) and Mjracle Sheppard (Mississippi State). The Tigers also have commitments from Arkansas transfer Jersey Wolfenbarger and top Louisiana high school prospect Jada Richard.
“We could not be more excited to add Shayeann, Kailyn and Mjracle to the LSU family,” coach Kim Mulkey said in a release. “The three of them will add a combination of experience and depth on the perimeter for us and will bolster our roster to continue to compete at an elite level.”
Here’s a rundown of all three players, including an overview of LSU’s key losses and additions so far.
Shayeann Day-Wilson – Guard
Day-Wilson is an experienced veteran who has appeared in 93 games with 71 starts. She began her career at Duke, where she was the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022, and spent two seasons with the Blue Devils before transferring to Miami this season.
In her career, she has averaged 10.8 points per game with 300 total assists and 79 steals. The Toronto native averaged 11.9 points with the Hurricanes this past season, and she has competed internationally representing Canada.
Kailyn Gilbert – Guard
A guard transfer from Tampa, Gilbert played her first two seasons at Arizona, appearing in 55 total games. She became a starter this past season, starting 19 of 23 games while leading the Wildcats in scoring with 15.1 points per game, a mark that ranked seventh overall in the Pac-12.
Gilbert scored 20 points in six games as a sophomore this season, and she’s a former top 40 recruit.
Mjracle Sheppard – Guard
A former four-star recruit originally from Kent, Washington, Sheppard played her high school ball at Montverde Academy in Florida and signed with the Bulldogs in 2023. She appeared in 36 games as a true freshman but was mostly a rotational player and only made one start.
She averaged 5.1 points and 2.1 assists, totaling 48 steals. She scored in double figures in three games and made a season-high six baskets in a win over LSU in January.
