John Rahm has opened up about finding “joy” in LIV Golf as the competition heats up for the championship, despite rumours swirling that he’s eyeing a return to the PGA Tour.
Rahm appears to be having second thoughts about his move to the Saudi-backed league. Golf Digest quotes an unnamed “veteran tour insider” who believes Rahm would ditch the league if he could. “I am 100 percent positive that if Jon could give the money back to the Saudis and come back to the tour, he couldn’t write the check fast enough,” they claim the source said.
Yet, Rahm seemed upbeat when talking to the press before teeing off at The Greenbrier, discussing the fight for the top spot among LIV Golf players. The 29-year-old, who has two major titles to his name, is currently trailing behind the 25-year-old Chilean talent Joaquin Niemann.
He also praised his close competitor and U. S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau, who is returning to the venue of his remarkable 58-shot win that claimed his first solo LIV Golf victory. Rahm commented on the upcoming challenge: “I think that’s something maybe more in my mind come Sunday, today is just the beginning, I just want to start the right way,” he shared.
“It’s always a joy to play with players like Bryson and Joaquin. They didn’t have the best day especially Joaquin on the greens, he played beautiful to the green and didn’t make really any. I wouldn’t be surprised if those two were to make a comeback on the weekend. (They’re) more than capable, one of them has done it with shots to spare. There’s still a long way to go to be thinking about the individual championship.”

Despite rumours surrounding his future, Rahm seems focused and ready for a crucial contest in the standings race. The Spanish golfer clinched his first solo LIV title this year at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester last time out, narrowly beating Niemann who tied for second place with Cameron Smith and Tyrell Hatton.
Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, is hot on the heels of DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in the team championship, sitting in second place. Yet, Rahm hasn’t replicated the same level of success or fan engagement that he enjoyed on the PGA Tour as a Masters and U.S. Open champion and former world No.1.
“Now there are only four times a year when he’s playing that anybody is remotely interested,” the insider is said to have added regarding Rahm’s alleged wish to rejoin the PGA. “He thought his stature in the game was secure no matter where he was playing, and it was a bad miscalculation.”
