‘I Just Blacked Out’: Keegan Bradley’s $4M Feat Brutally Crushed Sam Burns’s Spirits

If somebody wins at any golf tournament, it means heartbreak for the golfer who finishes T2 or second. That’s exactly what happened to Sam Burns at the BMW Championship. After losing to Keegan Bradley by just one stroke, Burns talked about his experience at the tournament and expressed his sentiments.

After finishing T2, Burns joined the Smylie Show YouTube channel. While they discussed a lot of things Burns was also asked about his thoughts on the bunker shot he made. As a response, the golfer said, “I mean, that looks perfect, and it landed and started going towards a hole. I was like, oh my, god, please do this right now. I think I just blacked out,” possibly realizing that Bradley had already secured the impressive $3.6 million prize.

This must be heartbreaking for Sam Burns who shot a 65 in the final round to finish with a total of 277 11-under-par. Which is just one stroke behind Keegan Bradley who finished with a total of 276 12-under-par. Although Burns started his first round with a 73, he shot 68 in the second round. However, things changed for him in the third round as he carded four bogeys and finished with a 71.

Burns has a total of five PGA Tour victories to his name and the last event he won was the 2023 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Looking to break the winless streak, Burns was close at the BMW Championship, but it didn’t happen. Instead, his T2 finish was added to the list of his top-5 finishes, which is 16 now.

However, if Sam Burns manages to keep this form at the Tour Championship, we might be able to witness a nail-biting season-ending golf. Although Burns was looking in decent form at the BMW Championship how did he lose?

How did Keegan Bradley defeat Sam Burns?

Much like Sam Burns, Bradley was also on a winless streak till now. The golfer hasn’t won anything since the 2023 Travelers Championship before this year’s BMW Championship. Bradley carded six birdies in the first round and finished with a 66. Moving to the second round, it was still amazing as he shot 68 to climb up. As for Burns, his first round was rough as compared to Bradley’s as he shot a 73, but the golfer recovered with a 62 in the second round.

Yes, Bradley’s third round took a downturn with six bogeys, but eight birdies helped to keep things from getting worse. After shooting birdies in the 17 and 18th Hole in the third round Bradley had a 2-shot lead of Sam Burns. It’s indeed true that he only shot two birdies in the final round, his remarkable first and second rounds were enough to grant the golfer victory.
