Greg Norman’s son slams “political propaganda machine” suggesting Jon Rahm is unhappy at LIV Golf

The issue of Jon Rahm being “unhappy” at LIV Golf resurfaced this Thursday, August 29, as the player himself spoke out on the matter. Greg Norman Jr., the son of league leader Greg Norman, also weighed in on the issue.

Numerous media outlets around the world echoed Jon Rahm’s statements and denied the reported “unhappiness.” Greg Norman Jr. used his X account (formerly Twitter) to claim that the golf media is using the same “playbook” as the “political propaganda machine.”

“Same playbook as the political propaganda machine… say whatever you want by leveraging your media arm to prop up your narrative”

Two weeks ago, Golf Digest’s Jaime Diaz published an article claiming that Jon Rahm was “regretting” his decision to join LIV Golf. Diaz quoted an anonymous source, who went so far as to say that Rahm would be willing to pay back his money to break his contract with the Greg Norman-led circuit.

Within hours, the LIV Golf CEO himself came out against the claims, saying they were not true. The Pro Golf Critic account on X, meanwhile, reported that Jon Rahm denied there being any truth to that rumor during the Greenbrier tournament.

Jon Rahm joined LIV Golf in December 2023, reportedly receiving a deal worth more than $300 million. Rahm was also given the captaincy and ownership of his own team, Legion XIII.

“There’s zero truth to it” – Jon Rahm on rumors of LIV Golf regret

Jon Rahm’s latest interview was published in the New York Post on Thursday, August 29, and the central theme was what Jaime Diaz had said in his article two weeks ago. The Spanish player flatly denied having any “regrets” about his decision to join LIV Golf.

That was part of what Rahm said:

“There’s zero validity to what any of that said. I don’t know where it came from. I don’t know why they feel the need to say that some of us are unhappy when we’re not. It’s one of the things that frustrates me a little bit, the fact that they can claim that there’s a source and there’s zero truth to it.”

He added:

“I’m very comfortable with my decision, very happy with my decision, very, very eager for the future of my team and the league. I get to be a part of something very different to what we had in the past. I always enjoyed being part of a team and to be in charge of one now is something incredible.”

Rahm has played all 12 events on the regular LIV Golf schedule, although he only finished 11 because he withdrew from the Houston event due to injury. He has 11 top-10 finishes, including his win in Nashville, one runner-up finish and three third-place finishes.

As a result, he leads the season’s individual standings with 195.17 points. He leads second-placed Joaquin Niemann by just three points.

His team, Legion XIII has also had a very successful season with four wins and a third place finish. The team currently sits in second place in the season standings with 176 points, just half a point behind Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC.
