The CEO of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), Yasir Al-Rumayyan is set to feature on the DP World Tour on Thursday, just weeks after the European circuit turned down a peace offering from the Saudi setup.

Having competed in last year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Pro-Am under the pseudonym, ‘Andrew Waterman’, Al-Rumayyan is back for 2024 playing under his own name according to The Telegraph. His entry will see golf’s three key Tour bosses come together with PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan also in action and DP World Tour CEO, Guy Kinnings expected on site.

The tournament comes at a time where golf ‘s proposed ‘merger’ between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour with LIV Golf dominates the sport, with Al-Rumayyan, Kinnings and Monahan continuing to hold talks.

In recent weeks a separate offer without the PGA Tour was made to the DP World Tour from the Saudi setup in a bid to settle their differences. According to Sports Illustrated, it centred around the outstanding fines owed by DP World Tour members to the Wentworth-based circuit who compete on the LIV tour.

The issue of outstanding fines has become a hot topic in recent weeks, with Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton appealing the financial sanctions placed upon them. Rahm in particular claimed he had no intention to pay, commenting at LIV Chicago last month: “I’m not a big fan of the fines.

“I’ve been outspoken about the fines. I don’t intend to pay the fines and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen.” Despite the issue the DP World Tour opted to turn down the offer from Al-Rumayyan and co amid their ‘Strategic Alliance’ with the PGA Tour.

Mirror Sport understands that as soon as the deal was put to Kinnings’ team, their PGA Tour allies were informed. The DP World Tour were unwilling to compromise with their Saudi counterparts, keen to remain consistent to the stance they had taken when originally handing out punishments.

For this week at least, it is expected that the focus will be on the on-course dealings with both Al-Rumayyan and Monahan in the Pro-Am side of the draw. Despite the ongoing hostiles 14 LIV players will also compete, with Rahm, Hatton and Brooks Koepka headlining.

Legion XIII teammates Rahm and Hatton are competing on the DP World Tour for the second-straight week, after taking part at the Spanish Open. Their return to the Wentworth-based circuit is an all-important one, with the LIV duo required to compete in four DP World Tour events before the end of the year to remain members and eligible for the Ryder Cup.

Following their venture in Spain last week, Hatton is set to tick off his four-event tally in Scotland, with Rahm needing to play one more following his trip to the Home of Golf.
