Justin Rose has admitted that he fails to see the future of how LIV Golf and PGA Tour would organise a joint schedule that would appeal to the sport’s top stars.
The potential merger between the two organisations has been in the works for over a year with a “framework agreement” being announced last year. However, since then progress has been slow in securing reunification of golf which would see the best players from both rival leagues compete against each other once again on a more regular basis.

Rose – who first began playing on the PGA Tour in 2004 – was asked about the possibility of there being too many golf events throughout the year.

The 2013 US Open champion admitted that an already packed schedule where players prioritise the majors makes it difficult for him to imagine a future where a merger provides a successful outcome
“That’s why I find it — I can’t quite see what the future is in terms of us coming back together because I think you’re still limited to the fact that there’s only a certain amount of weeks that the top players want to play, that’s going to fit their schedule,” Rose said in response to a question asking if there’s too much golf now.
The 2016 Olympic gold medalist identified 22 tournaments a year as the “magic number” for the sport’s top players to compete in. He also suggested that no amount of money would see players participate in events that go against a schedule they’ve created for themselves.

“So you can create this league, that league, this tour, supplement with this, but if it accumulates to 30 tournaments, you’re still going to get players choosing, no matter how much money you put up, not to play,” he added.

“Because ultimately you’re going to look at the four majors and go, okay, I need to be fresh, ready for these; this is my preparation; you have a family component to your life. All the other factors that come into play.”
Despite his uncertainty, Rose insisted a plan to complete the merger to achieve the best product for the players and fans is something that they’re “all trying to figure out”.
